THE LIGHTHOUSE BEGINS TO SHINE
In 1948, the Rev. R. L. Dean arrived in Haliburton with a message and a vision. His message was the message of the cross of Jesus Christ and the promises of God that were made reality because of the cross.
Pastor Dean‘s vision was to start a church that would share the Good News of Jesus Christ throughout the county, ultimately changing lives for all eternity.
It all began with tent meetings, which then led to a church building and the founding of Full Gospel Lighthouse. The Lighthouse has been involved in preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the Haliburton Highlands for all these many years.
While its location and methods have changed over time, the message has never changed. We still believe that the Bible is the Word of God and has divine power to change every life for the better. Pastor Dean’s vision has not diminished.
The Lighthouse is now a collection of faith communities growing in obedience to Christ, while intentionally sharing Jesus, His love and transforming power with others. We gather once a month as a collective to celebrate all that God is doing in our midst, to worship, pray and be encouraged by one another, in a variety of community spaces in our county. The other weeks we meet in smaller more intimate home churches that practice warm hospitality, and facilitate deep discipleship and transformation. Lighthouse members are trained and encouraged to find their purpose and mission within their everyday lives; to be active participants in God’s plan to redeem the world around them. Jesus commands us in Matthew 28: 19-20, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Our intention is to make disciples who make disciple there by multiplying the Kingdom exponentially.
May God give us eyes to see the harvest before us and send us out by His Spirit filled with His power!
